Interview with Linara Dovydaitytė on critical heritage issues for a Lithuanian news portal
Linara Dovydaitytė was interviewed about critical heritage issues for a popular Lithuanian news portal. In the extensive conversation, she discussed what we remember and what we forget, with a focus on the Lithuanian industrial and nuclear heritage.
“In Lithuania, there are many untold stories, including repressed experiences and memories, particularly regarding the recent difficult past. Heritage is often associated with identity and is typically viewed as something positive. However, it is important to acknowledge that heritage is always an act of selection. Therefore, there is a tendency to only highlight the positive, bright, or proud aspects while overlooking the difficult and potentially shameful ones. However, the past is complex, including both positive and negative aspects, conscious decisions and random events. Therefore, it is crucial to discuss not only the celebratory but also the dissonant and controversial heritage,” stated Linara in an article.
