Egle Rindzeviciute participated in a fieldtrip to Onkalo
On 26-29 May 2024, Egle Rindzeviciute participated in a fieldtrip organised by Prof Ele Carpenter at Umeå University, as part of the Nuclear Culture Research Group. The trip was funded by a grant from the Swedish Research Council and gathered Prof Susan Schuppli (Goldsmiths), Alex Ressel (Griffith) and Erich Berger (Oulu).
The group visited the Olkiluoto Nuclear Power Plant Visitor Centre, the nuclear waste encapsulation plant and had a privilege to descend in the depths of Onkalo – the world’s first deep geological repository for spent nuclear fuel, built in Finland.
The fieldtrip ended with a public event “Thinking with Onkalo” at SOLU Bioart Society in Helsinki, with the participation of human and non-human actors (rocks from Onkalo, invited by Prof Susan Schuppli, and Finnish uranium rocks presented by Erich Berger).
